I am a Sr.SQL Server and SybaseASE DBA working for a company that makes software for Investment Banks globally as well as does Hosting business. I love working on performance tuning, migration, baselining, process automation, Cloud (Azure), High availability as well as Disaster recovery technologies, etc. I firmly support SQL Server community and so being on this site is my way of gently giving back to the community of what I have earned over the years.

comment Multiple Distributors in SQL Server Replication
What is the scenario or business problem you are trying to address ? Replicaiton might not be a good choice, but if you tell us what you are trying to address, there might be other techniques that we can recommend.

comment How can I get a list all Databases in a Database Instance
Are you sure that it is database, not the table that you are looking for ? Your query is looking in sys.tables. Can you tell why are you using wizard as opposed to T-SQL or (SSIS) ?

comment Any way to track who has been executing what queries? who has been on my lawn?
A server side trace would be much better option then using Profiler. See this and this for more details.

comment How to resolve RESOURCE_SEMAPHORE and RESOURCE_SEMAPHORE_QUERY_COMPILE wait types
Is max memory set correctly or it is also set to default ? I cannot think of alleviating the memory grants by the query ? May be freeing up proc cache and dropping the buffers will generate better plans .. This might have some initial impact on performance, but you can test and then try it.

No need to reboot.. changing MAXDOP is dynamic .. you just have to run RECONFIGURE with OVERRIDE. Are you still seeing high memory usage by the queries ?

Yes change it. Maxdop of 1 means no parallelism.

@Stackoverflowuser I would not know that until you specify in your question. BTW, its easy to convert the above query and run the output using sp_executesql or exec.

comment How can I quickly detect that connectivity between two linked servers has been restored?
sp_testlinkedserver is the closest you can implement. Aaron has a good script here. You can schedule it using sql agent job - to check if the connection can be made or not and depending on failure or success it can alert.

Have you considered T-Replication or AlwaysON for DR ? I dont think pulling data using Linked server is a good option for data recovery.
