I'm a computer programmer from Columbus, OH. I regularly use C, C#, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, and Bash, as well as HTML/CSS.

I use both Windows and Linux at work and home. On Windows, I regularly use Visual Studio C# for programming projects. On Linux, I am usually creating command line programs in C using vi.

comment Is there a way to test whether DELETE will fail due to constraints?
Aaron: Sorry I didn't make it clear, but yes, I'm trying to make sure they all succeed, or none of them succeed.

comment Is there a way to test whether DELETE will fail due to constraints?
Aaron: We need to run a batch of several DELETEs in separate transactions. If one fails, the others are already committed. (Bad design from the start, I know, but it's not my application, and it's not changing.) The best workaround at the moment sounds like doing a dry check to see if the DELETEs will fail.

I've tried Lots of things. I felt that posting what I've tried would only bring this question deeper into oblivion--it should be simple.

comment Error calling stored procedure from trigger in Oracle Database 11g
But saving 4 characters is a benefit of not using CALL.

BTW: In the book (p. 546) , it says "Rather than creating a large block of code within a trigger body, you can save the code as a stored procedure and call the procedure from within the trigger, by using the call command."

+1 Thanks for the advice, I will certainly avoid it from here on. (I think it looks ugly anyway.)
