Jun 3, 2013 at 21:55 | comment | added | Aaron Bertrand | I am not sure I buy Pinal Dave's explanation. If he was trying to access the IP address 127.0.0.1, adding that entry to the hosts file does nothing - the hosts file is used to resolve names to IP addresses, not the other way around. | |

Also this will only help if you are accessing the instance using the explicit name LOCALHOST\instance name .
