Feb 4, 2014 at 13:57 comment added NewAtProgramming @Kin you are right.. they both are identical, which means that no matter which SSMS version I use I will surely be working on SQL Server 2012, right ?

Feb 4, 2014 at 13:49 comment added NewAtProgramming @Kin That make sense to me :) let me post output of both version of sql server
Feb 4, 2014 at 13:45 comment added Kin Shah Please check configuration manager -- check the service and run a select @@version and post the results. When you say connect - you are using ssms either 2008r2 or 2012. It does not matter. What matters is the version and the service running. Please check and let me know.
Feb 4, 2014 at 13:39 comment added NewAtProgramming @Kin I am able to work both on SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012 without any issue. Does it mean that my upgrade went wrong ?
Feb 4, 2014 at 13:14 comment added NewAtProgramming I have attached the screenshot (programs installed) after in-place upgrade.

Feb 4, 2014 at 13:10 comment added Kin Shah It is not possible as you might be overlooking some obvious stuff. Open configuration manager and check what service is running.
Feb 4, 2014 at 13:07 comment added NewAtProgramming yes it was an in place upgrade and I am able to open both SQL Server 2008 R2 and 2012. Even when I am writing ssms.exe on run it is opening SQL Server 2008 R2 and not 2012..
Feb 4, 2014 at 13:05 comment added Kin Shah Was it an inplace upgrade? What do you mean by can open default instance both from SQL Server 2008 and 2012 ?
