Currently I have an access database in a dropbox folder, used by a lot of people knowing nothing of IT and DBMSes (imagine them being grannies that just learned to use access after a course of five years). This gives quite a lot of problems as the database can only be edited by one person at a time, or it gives "conflict" versions.

Secondly I have a website using a webhost which only supports PHP with MySQL (and MySQLi), but no ODBC (and no option to acquire it, stubborn hosting), on which I would need to use the data of my access file.

Is there any way to combine an access database with a MySQL server without having to install the ODBC connection with the SQL server on every person's computer (I'm not talking about exporting of course)?

Thanks in advance.

  • I think it is not possible, if keeping in mind the "without having to install the ODBC connection with the SQL server on every person's computer" part, in the end I ended up switching to an all around MySQL system. – JohannesB Oct 11 '16 at 21:01
