We have SQL Server 2012 database which pulls data using a linked server to a Netezza database. We have had a memory issue reported in an overnight batch.

Error message:

OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server [name] returned message "ERROR: reserve exceeded : Out of memory "

Can any one give me a clue on how to diagnose this error, as we have had it a couple of times recently. As far as we know no infrastructure or configuration has changed on either side of the linked server.

We are not sure if this means the SQL Server box with the provider or the Netezza box.

Google has failed me on this.

Well - I did a couple of searches starting on the Sql Server side and came up with nothing. BUT, when I searched for 'Netezza reserve exceeded', I found numerous posts (which 'may' not be your problem), but my money is on the Netezza being the issue. – Scott Hodgin Sep 1 '16 at 9:42
  • Yes, you may be right. We have hit on a couple of possibilities now. Netezza may need "vacuuming" to release space or we may need a newer version of the Netezza drivers on the SQL server boxes. – Dib Sep 1 '16 at 11:03
  • This post is what put us on to those points: ibm.com/developerworks/community/forums/html/… – Dib Sep 1 '16 at 11:05
