new error

Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server : SSPI Provider: No Kerberos credentials available.
Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server : Cannot generate SSPI context.

can't run simple SQL statements. Why does here the login work?

# sqlcmd -S tcp:127.0.0.1,1434 -U SA
Password:
1> Select @@version;
2> SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('productversion'), SERVERPROPERTY ('productlevel'),
3> SERVERPROPERTY ('edition');
4>

The -A option doesn't exists. Firewall-CMD is not installed on my VM (minimal installation) and I followed the troubleshooting guide.

# sqlcmd -A -S tcp:127.0.0.1,1434 -U SA
Sqlcmd: 'A': Unknown Option. Enter '-?' for help.

  • I know you checked iptables, but have you tried this: sudo firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=1433/tcp --permanent followed by sudo firewall-cmd --reload – Max Vernon Jan 13 '17 at 14:31
  • Interesting, the -A argument certainly exists on Windows. Did you try adding it at the end of the argument list instead of first? Did you try without ,1434? – Aaron Bertrand Jan 13 '17 at 15:21
  • I'd say DNS Name resolution is not working; are you able to ping xxx-sqlser successfully? What does it say the IP address is? – Max Vernon Jan 19 '17 at 20:41
  • What does ifconfig say the inet address is for your machine? If it's multihomed, the server may have multiple inet addresses listed in the output of ifconfig. Try sqlcmd -S x.x.x.x,1433 -U sa where x.x.x.x is inet address for each one listed in ifconfig output. – Max Vernon Jan 19 '17 at 20:46

I believe this is PORT issue,

Please add the port configured (1433/1434) for SQL in Firewall Exception.

use command below to open the configuration

sudo system-config-firewall-tui

The above will open 'terminal-user interface (TUI) firewall client' for RHEL6 or above

OR

Use iptables command to open up a new TCP/UDP port in the firewall. To save the updated rule permanently, you need the second command.

$ sudo iptables -I INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT
$ sudo service iptables save

That should make it work
