In mysqld.cnf there was by default uncommented:
log_error = /var/log/mysql/error.log
and commented out:
#general_log_file = /var/log/mysql/mysql.log
#general_log = 1

I can view error.log file fine. When I remove #'s to enable mysql.log, it is generated but I cannot view it like error.log. I need open the file as root which is not very convenient. Is it a bug, actually?

mysql5.7.25, ubuntu-mate 18.04
