I have a database hosted on SQL Server Express 2017. The size was small like 200MB. Today I have copied 24GB tables to the same database from external database hosted on different server.

The surprising thing is that everything is working perfectly! As far as I know that size limitation of a database hosted on SQL Server Express 2017 is 10GB. Can someone please help me understand what I am missing?

Edit: When I run: sp-spaceused on the same database I get this output: Database_size: 24510.38 MB

  • Please add below info in the question. Please check database size by running below command in the database --> use db_name go exec sp_spaceused go – Learning_DBAdmin May 9 '19 at 9:13
  • Database_size: 24510.38 MB that's the output – Nano May 9 '19 at 9:15

Are you using FILESTREAM or FILETABLE data? Neither of those are included in the 10gb limit. – Scott Hodgin May 9 '19 at 9:19
  • Can please run SELECT @@VERSION? – robopim May 9 '19 at 9:19
  • Are you sure you connected to correct database. What is output of select @@version – Shanky May 9 '19 at 9:21
