I am about to build a PostgreSQL 11 cluster with Repmgr and Pgpool II, and I want to use Barman for backups.

The result will be a PostgreSQL cluster with one master node and two standby nodes:

  • postgres1 (master)
  • postgres2 (standby)
  • postgres3 (standby)

Barban is receiving WAL from the master node (postgres1).

I am wondering what we should do when this node is down so Barman stops to receive WAL replication from it.

As Pgpool will promote a new node as master, is there any way to make Barman follow the switchover and receive WAL replication from the new master without any user intervention and without creating two different backups?
