I installed PosgreSQL 12 using the certified installer by EnterpriseDB.

I went through the docs. In Chapter 18.2. Creating a Database Cluster, it is said that you need to initialize a database cluster with the command initdb, for example:

$ initdb -D /usr/local/pgsql/data.

Do I actually need to initialize a database cluster? The documentation says that the databases postgres and template1 are created within each cluster during initialization. When I start the database server using pgAdmin 4 I see these databases there. I assume that I need to do it manually when I install PostgreSQL from source code, otherwise it is done automatically during instalation. Right?

    Probably the installer, which is not covered by the PostgreSQL documentation, ran initdb for you. – Laurenz Albe Jan 22 at 17:34
