I have a LAMP server running MySQL and PHPMyAdmin. Yesterday I got the following error trying to login to PHPMyAdmin:

#2002 - No such file or directory
The server is not responding (or the local server's socket is not correctly configured).

By following the instructions that I found on previous posts I fixed the problem by killing the active mysql process and restarting mysqld. Today the same error appeared. The server was not rebooted. How can I prevent this problem to occurr again?

EDIT: some more information.

Ubuntu 16.04

PHP 7.0.33 mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.7.29

  • Not enough information about your running system: OS type & version, LAMP version, did you read the php and MySQL log? Are you using a single computer or do you have a separate server? AND if you find the usefull answer elsewhere, please drop here a note (you may write your own answer), for the other people with a similar problem. – schweik Feb 11 at 9:24
