Is it possible to shrink the data file of a slave server in SQL server and continue the replication operation.

Ideally im trying to avoid the data file shrinking in master to reduce the down time and make the slave as master if the shrinking is possible.

Thank you, Peter

With SQL Server transactional replication, data is replicated at the table level, not the database itself. So you can make whatever changes you want to the database. The question is why you want to shrink the database in the first place. Check out ShouldIShrinkMyDatabase.com, and make sure you click through to the linked article. – AMtwo May 21 at 11:20
  • thank you for reply, There 60% free space in DB after a bulk cleanup so shrinking is unavoidable. – Peter May 21 at 15:09
