I managed to start the master node mariadb galera cluster, then I started the second node and I check on the first master node;

$ sudo mysql -u root -p -e "SHOW STATUS LIKE 'wsrep_cluster_size'"
Enter password:
+--------------------+-------+
| Variable_name      | Value |
+--------------------+-------+
| wsrep_cluster_size | 2     |
+--------------------+-------+

but when I checked the second node it says:

what does it mean ? port 4444 is open on both the nodes.

I had the same issue with 2 nodes configured. mariadb-10-1-galera-cluster-error.

When using Galera Cluster, it’s recommended that the cluster have at least three nodes. In a two-node cluster, when there is a conflicting pair of transactions, it could lead to a split-brain situation. Also, when one node fails, the remaining node will become non-operational. (Two-Node Clusters)

  • I also added 3rd node, but now the 3rd node is fine but master and remote node is giving this error ERROR 1047 (08S01): WSREP has not yet prepared node for application use Nov 28, 2020 at 20:18
  • You can bootstrap the surviving node to form a new Primary Component, using the pc.boostrap wsrep Provider option : SET GLOBAL wsrep_provider_options = 'pc.bootstrap=true'; ( to avoid the risk that each of the two nodes will think itself as being the Primary Component)

  • I earlier ran this command on the actual master. Do i have to set master to false for pc.bootstrap? And if setting to true on the surviving node works should I leave it like that? I was actually trying put this cluster behind proxysql and set the weight of surviving node to highest Nov 28, 2020 at 21:17
  • that didnt helped though. Nov 28, 2020 at 23:17
