After restoring a oracle database with the following command, recovery fails :

CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARALLELISM 8;
CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS  'ENV=(xxxxx)';
CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO 'SBT_TAPE';
RUN {
      SET UNTIL TIME "TO_DATE('16.12.2022 14:10:00','dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss')";
      RESTORE DATABASE;
      RECOVER DATABASE;
}

The Error is:

RMAN-03002: failure of recover command at 12/19/2022 19:32:38
RMAN-06054: media recovery requesting unknown archived log for thread 1 with sequence 163254 and starting SCN of 6628425353

The sequence 163254 cannot be recovered. It is not available anymore.

It seems by setting the “UNTIL TIME” for the restore, it is required to recover to the same time.

RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL SEQUENCE 163253;

will fail and requires a full restore.

Is there a way to avoid restoring the database again?

    no, restore must be started over from the beginning. that said, you will likely get the same error: you are missing one or more archived redo logs required to restore to that point in time / SCN.
