I installed this image in docker (27.1.2) on redhat 9 (5.14.0-362.18.1.el9_3.x86_64, 16 gigs of memory, two CPUs, virtual machine):

docker login container-registry.oracle.com

docker pull container-registry.oracle.com/database/enterprise:latest

docker container create -it --name oracle-db -p 1521:1521 -e ORACLE_PWD=ABC container-registry.oracle.com/database/enterprise:latest

When doing docker start oracle-db the startup fails with this log entries:

docker logs oracle-db

I am a newbie to docker. What I found that it might be related to ulimit, but I am not really sure what it does, if it helps and how it needs to be set to get it working. Most posts are from a couple years back and therefore I am not sure how valid they are or even related.

Since the oracle documentation is complex, I might have missed something, when setting it up.

The path /opt/oracle/diag/tnslsnr/6de041e048eb/listener/alert/ does not exist.

Any ideas how I can get the container to run? Thx!

Background: I need the EE version to run tests with some mass mock data (up to 100 million entries in one table) and the Oracle XE/DEV editions have the 12 gig size limit, which does not work for me in this case. It is not meant for production, only DEV.

  • Thanks that works. Thanks for trying out, I did not find this post, but alot that increased that limit in a different way. Which did not work when I tried them. For my understanding: From what I understood nofile is related to the number of files allowed. All the guides regarding the official docker images by oracle did not mention it. Therefore I was reluctant to play with a setting whos impact I did not completely get. Why does this need to be increased in this case?
