I'm using a database Oracle 11g.

I have a DBF file of an old tablespace from a different database that I want to connect to the existing database.

I've created a tablespace with REUSE caluse, and it was created successfully

SQL> create tablespace TEST datafile 'C:\DATA.DBF' reuse;

How can I view the tables/data within that tablespace?

Was that the right approach ?

Or should I attached that tablespace in a different way ?

Thanks in advance for your answers,

    This isn't possible without using expensive 3rd party tools, unless you exported it as a transportable tablespace and have the corresponding expdp file. – Philᵀᴹ Dec 16 '13 at 10:29
  • That's very unfortunate to hear, Can you perhaps refer me to a documentation that supports your reply ? Thanks, Roni – Roni Vered Dec 16 '13 at 13:50

    It's not in the documentation because it's not possible. The .dbf file by itself does not contain the metadata that the database needs in order to make sense of what the file contains - this information is contained in tables that are in the system tablespace; information that is usually transferred (along with the data) by using a recognised export method (exp/expdp/transportable tablespaces etc) – Philᵀᴹ Dec 16 '13 at 14:09
  • Ok, you can write it as an answer and I'll accept it if you want. Thanks. – Roni Vered Dec 16 '13 at 17:40
