Here is how to get around it:
Step 01) Create an empty stopword list
$ echo -n > /var/lib/mysql/stopwords.txt
Optional : Make the stopword list have articles (no pun intended) 'a','an','the'

Get stopwords of a InnoDB fulltext index
After you created the stopword table, now configure MariaDB.conf with innodb_ft_server_stopword_table:
innodb_ft_server_stopword_table=cust_stop/stopwords
and restart MariaDB.
