Aggregating data by group and time gaps
Huh, that's weird. Here's an updated link; almost identical except for caps

I forgot about this question! Thanks for the answer. I've built up something similar for my own use and wrote about it here

Aggregating data by group and time gaps
I want GPS loggers that have good reception and are feeding consistent data to the database to be grouped together. The end goal being grouping trips together rather than having large time or space jumps within a group, whether the duration is several days or 15 minutes.

I don't want to calculate average speed every 4 hours. I want to group a table of GPS points by the GPS ID and separate by any gaps in the time stamp.

Joining tables based on time and distance: PostGIS with PostgreSQL?
I ended up doing something else using 3 common table expressions. The first to get all points in the "small" table that by group, the next to return "big" data + - 1 hour and within bounds of the small group ID. I'll stick it up here tomorrow when I'm in the office.

I'm not sure yet, I tried to build the gist time index on the dev machine but ran out of space. I'm dumping the dev machine's tables to a bigger server and will build the index and try again today.
