I'm also well acquainted with many related technologies, and recently developed an interest for custom Domain Specific Languages as a way to provide flexibility to a business with reduced development costs.

I hold very strongly a conviction that software development is a craft, and best practices should always be defended at all times. However, there must be a balance to everything, and software is a means to an end, if a problem can be solved without code, it's likely to be a better solution.
