I have been fiddling with Linux in one way or another for over two decades, ever since I'd first found out I had a need to do other things than wait, while burning CDs.
Getting to know applications intimately, and making them do useful things to each other, sounded way more fun than (just) programming, so that's what I've been doing since.
For the past decade, I have also been keeping myself busy (and on the road) by teaching people how to either use Linux, live better with PostgreSQL instead of Oracle, effectively develop modern applications using Java EE, OSGi and related microservice-oriented technologies, set up and use the best PaaS platform ever, OpenShift, manage hybrid cloud environments, and sometimes even how to manage some (or all) of the above in an enterprise setting.
I like to listen to rock music and drum & bass in my spare time, but even more so, I love to drop all of what I just told for a while, in favor of riding a snowboard, kitesurf, wakeboard and (somewhat less than successfully) trying to make my Weimaraner give up before I do.
