I want to provide high availability for my SQL Server. It is important that the service is back as soon as possible, more than making sure that data isn't lost. My SQL Server 2008 R2 is running on a VMware machine.
Which of the following ways will provide the highest availability?
- SQL cluster
- AlwaysOn (is it worth upgrading)?
- VM level cluster (HA / VMotion)
- Windows server cluster
- Any other method
Regarding mirroring, I see this comment:
Database Mirroring (SQL Server)
This feature will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server. Avoid using this feature in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use this feature. Use AlwaysOn Availability Groups instead.
What is replacing it?
