Mongodb ubuntu - config server and shard together
Are you in production or testing once you set these up to run as daemons as opposed to interactive shell processes? Where will you log the server output? Do you have a preferred method to run other services on ubuntu or is this a single purpose VM/appliance situation?

How to deploy MongoDB config servers to achieve maximum availability during network partitions?
Can you share your planning numbers? Will you have a dozen or 100 shards? What volume of writes are you expecting on the config servers? They are typically extremely lightwight and just store metadata on cluster configuration. Any reliable slow server can work for config.

How do you set the MySQL password on Mac OS X?
My apologies for pinging you to another site, but there is nothing special about MySQL on Macs. It's not installed as part of Lion, so this really is about running a piece of open source software and coincidentally about Macs. To increase your chances of getting help - let's link to the exact download and see if they have a troubleshooting article you can let us know which step has you stumped. Listing the steps you've taken to solve the issue will help someone with experience point out your error in setting this package up for secure operation.
